The internet is a great resource both academically and socially. But how can you stay safe? Here are some "Rules to Tweet By".
1. You Are What You Tweet
Just because you don’t mean something to be mean or dumb, doesn’t mean that it will be perceived that way. Your online reputation translates directly into your real life reputation.
2. Your Selfies Now Are Your #latergrams #forever
Send and post pictures with discretion. Your future boss will not be amused by your duck face selfies, no matter how impressive they may be.
3. Let's Be Real, "password" is Never a Good Password
For the rest of eternity, no one is going to believe you if you said you were hacked, even if you were. Legitimately password protect everything you can, and change them often.
4. That Little Ghost Doesn't Really Disappear. Neither Do Your Pictures.
Snapchat caches all of your pictures on their servers and anytime you send something to someone, expect them to screenshot it. Privacy is something you have to work for.
5. Your Status is Not Your Therapist or Best Friend
Don’t air your dirty laundry on Facebook. If you tag a friend in a status, all of their friends can see it too, not to mention your own lack of privacy. Have you checked your security settings recently?
6. "Likes" Don't Measure Your Worth, but They Show People What You Think is Worthy.
Everything you like on facebook is visible to your friends, their friends, and your friend’s friends, so be careful what you’re endorsing on your page. If you think something is awesome, post it, and if it doesn’t get a million likes, you can still think it’s awesome. Own your brand of you.
